Obituary of Dale Erik Sandvold

Dale Erik Sandvold (Erik) (Age 72) Erik passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at home in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born in Watertown, Wisconsin on August 4, 1940 and grew up in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, attending elementary, junior high, and high school. He studied art at the Kansas City Art Institute, graduating with BA in Interior Design. He worked as an interior designer with quality furniture stores in Janesville, Lake Geneva, Kansas City, Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia (Sloans and Colony House) winning awards for his sales volume and service to clients. Prior to retirement he was the owner of the Purple Pineapple Store in Mount Dora, Florida. In retirement he moved from Virginia to La Crosse to be closer to his family. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Louise Reinke, his parents Lucille Reinke Sandvold and Sverre (Sandy) Sandvold and his infant sister, all of Fort Atkinson. His marriage to Karen Michels of Fort Atkinson ended in divorce. He is survived by his ex-wife Karen Michels Sandvold of La Crosse, Wisconsin; son Reed Sandvold of La Crosse, Wisconsin; and grandchildren Maggie Skifton, Green Bay, WI; Josh Skifton, La Crosse, WI and Nik Thompson of Green Bay, WI. He is also survived by close friends and cousins, among them two more Erik Sandvolds. He loved to decorate his Christmas tree with a different elegant theme and homemade decorations each year, and delighted friends with artistic creations such as small decorated Christmas trees and intricate needlepoint pillows and wall hangings. His needlepoint pillow covers and art work are enjoyed in many homes and are treasured gifts. He had impeccable taste in design. His favorite work of art was one created by Josh, hung in a place of honor on his wall. He delighted in walking their dogs several times a day. He created delicious meals, served on an elegant table. On Saturday November 10, 2012 family and friends will be received at 10 AM at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Atkinson, WI for a memorial service to celebrate his life. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson.
