Obituary of Verna Kathryn Vethe

Verna Kathryn Vethe, age 99, of Cambridge, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Willowbrook Nursing & Rehab Center in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. Verna was born in the Town of Christiana, Wisconsin area on September 5, 1913, the daughter of Carl and Lottie (Johnson) Smithback. Verna had resided in Cambridge most of her life. In September 1932, Verna married Elmer Vethe. Together they celebrated more than 50 years of marriage before Elmer preceded her in death on April 23, 1985. Verna worked for Prepo and IKI in Edgerton, WI for 20 years prior to her retirement in 1978. Verna was a member of East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, Cambridge, WI. Verna enjoyed crocheting and working in the garden. In her younger years, Verna and Elmer enjoyed dancing and visiting with their many friends. She loved having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visiting her. She always had a big smile on her face to greet them. After a long life's journey, Verna will be lovingly met by her husband Elmer and her son Richard. Surviving are: Son: Donald (Karen) Vethe of Cambridge, WI; grand- children, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Richard Vethe, sisters: Evelyn Newcomb and Nora Wolcott, and great-granddaughter Crystalyn Meyer. A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, 208 N. Park Street, Cambridge, Wisconsin. Interment will be in St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Deerfield, WI. Friends may call after 10AM on Saturday at the Funeral Home until the time of the services.
