Obituary of Rodney Lloyd Zautner

Rodney Lloyd Zautner, 75, Fort Atkinson, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI.

Rodney was born at Watertown Hospital on  Sept 24, 1947, and raised in Sullivan Wis. He graduated from Jefferson HS, and attended MSOE in Milwaukee. Rod joined the United States Navy in 1968 and served in Hawaii and Guam as a teletype operator. He met his wife Wendy upon his return to Sullivan after being discharged from the Navy. Rod moved to Fort Atkinson in 1978 and in 1981 he married Wendy Neilson.

 Rod was a kind and gentle person who always saw the good in people. He never bragged or complained. Rod enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved sports, especially the Brewers, Packers, Badgers and the Bucks. During his younger years he played softball on several teams in Jefferson County. He played league pool for various teams and participated in league bowling for many years in Rome Wisconsin. In his later years,Rod took up golf. He also, along with his wife Wendy, loved cross country and downhill skiing. Rod and his wife enjoyed many trips out west skiing in the mountains. He also enjoyed hiking trails in the beautiful parks in Wisconsin. He loved his dogs and after getting a cat he learned to love them too. Rod 

Rod was employed for many years at Crepaco and then served as a letter carrier for the USPS until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Wendy, his sister Sharon Roth, his brother Tom Zautner, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Father Robert Zautner and his mother Veronica Zautner.

We thank the many Nurses and Doctors who cared for Rod at St Marys during his final days, especially Dr Miller whose kindness and gentle approach were greatly appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post 166, 201 S. Water St. E, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538 on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 4:00-7:00pm.  Military honors will be held on the Legion at 4:30pm
