Obituary of Wanda Suzanne Haferman

Wanda Suzanne (Schmidt) Haferman, 91, of Fort Atkinson passed away on November 12, 2018.

Wanda was born on March 22, 1927 to Johan and Susana (Weslow) Schmidt.  She was the oldest of seven children and spent her early childhood living on the family farm in Eagle, Wisconsin. 

On June 16, 1950, Wanda married Douglas Haferman at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson.  He preceded her in death on June 4, 2016.  For many years, Wanda waitressed at Black Hawk Hotel in Fort Atkinson, and even served Vincent Price and Senator John and, his wife, Jackie Kennedy.

Wanda was very artistic and liked to cross-stitch, make ceramics and enjoyed making crafts with her grandchildren.  She was very meticulous about her home and loved animals, especially her dachshunds.  She was also a member at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Wanda is preceded in death by her sisters, Marie Williams and Arbutis Schmidt; and many other friends and relatives.

She is survived by her son, Mark (Julie) Haferman of McFarland; daughter, Valrie (Arthur) Houk of Fort Atkinson and their children, Ryan Houk and his daughter, Gabriella,  Matthew Houk and his son Landon, and Laura (Dan) Evenson and their son,  Beau; daughter, Judy Gasser of Delafield and family; son, Gary (Diane) Gasser of Kansas and family; sisters, Pearl (Jerry) Johnson of Fort Atkinson and Bonnie Owens of Florida; and brothers, Russell Schmidt of Watertown and Michael Schmidt of Fort Atkinson.

Memorials may be made in Wanda’s name to Tomorrow’s Hope (For Alzheimer’s), P.O Box 95, Jefferson, WI 53549, or the charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sienna Crest for their excellent compassionate care for Wanda over the last ten years and to Rainbow Hospice for their care in Wanda’s final days.

Per Wanda’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
