Obituary of Leonard Russell Heiliger
Leonard Heiliger, 101, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on January 18, 2024, at Wellington Meadows in Fort Atkinson after a brief illness.
Leonard was born on June 14, 1922, in Lancaster, WI to Leo and Lizzie (Bailie) Heileger. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1940. After high school, he went to serve his country in the United States Army during WWII. Leonard attended finance school and was stationed at various places in Europe as a chief financial officer. On January 25, 1946, he married Irene Wolff at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. They have a son James of Watertown.
Leonard worked for 43 years at Creamery Package in Fort Atkinson, which became APV Crepaco in Lake Mills. He was a production engineer and was instrumental in designing ice cream freezers. Leonard followed Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Packers. His favorite past time was bowling. He bowled in leagues until he was 96 and ran the Arcadia Lanes bowling tournament for 23 years. He averaged over 200 several different years. Leonard also was on the board of directors of the Fort-Jefferson bowling association for many years.
Leonard went to Washington D.C. on the Badger Honor Flight which meant a lot to him. He is survived by his wife Irene; son James and Correy and Jeremy Niemuth.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 11:00am at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church 301 S. High St. Fort Atkinson, WI 53538. Burial will follow the meal at the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00am until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
