Lyn Thormann

Obituary of Lyn Thormann

(Meri) Lyn Thormann, 55, of Fort Atkinson WI, passed away peacefully at UW Hospital in Madison, WI on Wednesday November 15, 2023, surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle from medical complications after a heart transplant on June 21, 2023.

Lyn was born in DeKalb, IL on January 18, 1968, along with her twin sister.  She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School on June 1, 1986.  She married the love of her life, John Thormann on May 18, 1991.  Her pride and joy are their two sons Tyler (Veronica) of Wisconsin Rapids and Mason (Hope Schroeder) of Fort Atkinson.  She has four beautiful grandchildren: Reuben, Gideon, Declan and Isabel that she loved and adored.

John and Lyn spent many weekends at their camper at Buckhorn Campground in Mauston. They enjoyed spending time with great friends playing cards, sitting around the fire, or just talking.  She enjoyed having time to relax, read a good book, and have a little fun with others.

Lyn spent many years bowling.  It was her biggest hobby.  She enjoyed it so much that she helped coach the high school bowling team for a couple of years.  She was a great instructor.  She enjoyed spending time with John on couples’ leagues through the years.  Her Wednesday night ladies bowling team will certainly miss their anchor bowler.  She was amazing under pressure.

Lyn worked for 35 years at Nasco as a buyer and then as a materials manager.  She loved her job and her work family.  She was the go-to person that everyone reached out to.

Lyn is further survived by her parents Don and Judy Henning; siblings Molly (Stan) Kempema, George (Lisa) Purucker, Alice (Dale Buckingham) Purucker, Heidi (Doug Mraz) Henning, Heather Henning, Lee (Holly Block) Henning, Luke (Pam Brown) Purucker and Wayne (Lisa) Brannen; mother and father-in-law Diane and Al Thormann.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.  She was preceded in death by her mom Nancy (Reed) Henning, grandparents Benjamin and Cora Henning, Ray and Ruth Reed and Jean and Oscar Hanson and her Uncle Marvin Henning.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 11:00am at Bethany Lutheran Church 404 Roosevelt St. Fort Atkinson, WI 53538.  Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00am until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow.

As an expression of sympathy, you may wish to consider memorials to a scholarship fund that will be created in Lyn’s honor.

“If love alone could have saved her, she would be here ten times over.  Everywhere she went and anyone she met loved her.  Her beautiful smile will be missed by so many.”

A special thank you to the doctors and the entire nursing staff on B4/5 at UW Hospital for their tireless and compassionate care of Lyn and her family during her extended hospitalization.
