Obituary of Marjorie J Lemke

Marjorie J. Lemke, 93, of Fort Atkinson went to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Reena Senior Living.

Marjorie was born on August 3, 1930 in Steven’s County, MN to Henry and Frances (Neiland) Mumm.  She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Steven’s County, MN in August of 1930.  She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Morris, MN in May of 1945.

 Marjorie had great memories of growing up on a farm across the road from the one room school house she attended. Later, the family moved to the city of Morris and she graduated from Morris, MN High School in 1948. She went on to study at Martin Luther College for an education degree.

 Marjorie taught in Lutheran schools in Fairfax, MN; Wrightstown, WI; and Fort Atkinson, WI.  She was also the head cook at St. Paul’s School for 25 years.

On November 27, 1958 Marjorie married Willard Lemke Sr. and they were blessed with two children.

Marjorie loved and enjoyed playing card games, especially with her beloved sisters and brothers and their families. She was an excellent cook and loved to prepare holiday meals for her family. She was involved in many church activities over the years including Ladies Aid.

Marjorie was most thankful for her faith in her Savior Jesus. She shared that love and faith with many throughout her life and Christian education was especially important to her.

She is survived by her children, Laurie (Paul) Bender of South  Elgin, IL, and Willard "Willy" (LaDana) Lemke Jr. of Wautoma, WI; grandchildren, Savannah (Desmond) Durow, Vanessa Lemke, Willard (Ivonne)Lemke III, Cory Bender, and Courtney Bender; great grandchildren Ava, Emerson, Norah, and Rosalie; siblings, Mary Grotjohn, Brainerd, MN, Reverend James (Gail) Mumm, LaCrosse, WI, Beverly Gulseth, Sonora, CA, Sandra Bellig, Sanborn, MN, and sisters in law Sandra Mumm, Ham Lake, MN, and Doris Lemke, Edgerton, WI along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Frances Mumm; husband, Willard Lemke Sr.; sister Betty Wolf; brother Mark Mumm; brothers-in-law, Miles Grotjohn, Harold Wolf, Grant Gulseth, Gordon Bellig, Harold Lemke; sisters- in- law Dianne Mumm, Evelyn Kump, Mary Lemke; and nephew, Philip Mumm.

Visitation will be at 10:00am until funeral service at 11:00am, Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 404 Roosevelt St, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538. Reverend Ethan Steinbrenner will be officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marjorie’s name to Bethany Lutheran Church Missions Fund or Lakeside Lutheran High School in Lake Mills, WI.

Marjorie’s family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers and staff at Reena Senior Living and Agrace Hospice for their exceptional care for Marjorie.
