Obituary of Glenn V.O. Duckert

Glenn V.O. Duckert, age 83, of Cambridge, WI peacefully passed away on October 16, 2023, in his home. He was born April 17,1940 on a farm outside of London, WI to Evelyn and Vernon Duckert. Glenn graduated from Cambridge High School in 1958. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and completed Aircraft Mechanic School before being stationed in Waco, TX until 1962.  Shortly after this Glenn joined the Air National Guard and worked at Truax Field in Madison until his retirement in 1996 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Glenn was united in marriage to Gertrude Hajek on July 17,1965. They enjoyed dancing to polka bands and traveling together. Glenn’s hobbies included playing cards, hunting, fishing, gardening, watching the wildlife out of his sunroom window, talking smart and enjoying a cold one. Glenn loved to laugh, tell stories and joke with those he loved and his humor will be missed by all who knew him.

 

 Glenn is survived by his wife, Gertrude; daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Twesme  of Lake Mills, and Jon (Linda) Duckert of Cambridge; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Zach Twesme and Franklin Flint, his siblings Marvin (Darlene) Duckert of Madison, Marie Galston of Lake Mills, Dorothy Zell of Grinell, IA, Vernon Duckert Jr. (Betty) of Cambridge, Joann Duckert of Fort Atkinson and Diane Brunk of Jefferson, Sister-in-Law; June Duckert of Jefferson and Brother-in-law Jerry Brown of Belleville and many nephews and neices and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Howard Duckert and Janette Brown; his brother-in-laws Billie Galston and Gene Zell, his nephew Kurt Brown and his great-nephew Dustin Zuelsdorf.

 

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the incredible staff at Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care, The UW Cancer Center in Johnson Creek and the Davita Dialysis Center in Fort Atkinson.  Also a special thanks to Glenn’s driver Bill, his caretakers Linda, Becky Gonzalez, and sister Diane and to all of those who brought him meals.

 

 Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Nitardy Funeral Home, 208 N Park St, Cambridge.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 am followed by service officated by Pastor Barb Berg at 11:00 am. A graveside service including military honors will be held at the Kroghville Cemetery on Kroghville Road.  Luncheon to follow at the London Community Center.
