Obituary of Kenneth Andrew Otting

Kenneth Otting died Friday, September 29, 2017 at Fairhaven Nursing Home. He was born to Andrew and Ida Otting on April 6, 1931 in Manchester, Iowa. He graduated from high school in 1949 at Marion, Iowa. Entering Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa he graduated in 1953. He spent two years in the Army including a year in Korea, returning to Marion he taught social studies for 5 years. He then went to the University of Iowa where he received his PhD in Social Studies Education in August 1964. He then accepted a position on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. He stayed there as a teacher and administration until his retirement in June 1993. Kenneth married Dorothy A. Levasseur on June 7, 1952 in Marion, Iowa and they were married for 65 years. Kenneth enjoyed sports both as a participant and an observer. Beginning in 1971 he and Dorothy travelled the world first on their own and then with tour groups until age and health left them unable to do so. Kenneth is survived by his wife Dorothy and his sister Sharon of Marion, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the: Kenneth A. and Dorothy A. Otting Scholarship Fund at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1225 W. Main Street, Whitewater, WI with Father Thomas Coyle celebrating. Dorothy will greet family and friends at Fairhaven Fellowship Hall on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater, Wisconsin is assisting the family.
