My condolences to Joyce's family and friends. Joyce was my teacher in college many years ago. She was a wonderful teacher and person. She genuinely cared for her students and made a profound impact in my life, helping me to grow as a musician and person. I have many wonderful memories of her and she will be greatly missed.

I joined the University of Wisconsin Whitewater as a piano instructor during the fall of 1966 until my marriage in 1970. I had the pleasure of knowing Joyce not only as a dedicated member of the vocal faculty much admired and respected by students as well as other faculty, but also as a wonderful wife, loving and caring friend, generous with such a positive attitude, and just a fun person who loved to travel and enjoy life each day. Later, I followed her life as she became a mother of two young men. It was obvious how much she enjoyed her role and how she cherished her time with them while growing up at home and later as gifted and talented musicians themselves. Obviously she was a great inspiration to both of them as she continued to do the same for countless students who passed through her studio at UWW. Her time on earth was well lived and she will be greatly missed by her husband, sons, extended family and all who had the pleasure of knowing this very fine and talented person. Rest in Peace Joyce!

Joyce was an exceptional teacher and friend. She was encouragied me to continue with my vocal studies even though people knew me only as a flutist. (I studied with her in high school and college.) Joyce had the skills to bring out expression and musicianship in her students. Her teaching helped with my instrumental abilities as well. She was a wonderful teacher, mentor and friend. She will be missed greatly. My deepest sympathies to Tom, Josh and Jamie.

I believe that I was in the first class that Mrs. Ryan taught at Wisconsin State University - Whitewater, now UW-Whitewater. Although I was very comfortable sitting on the piano bench as an accompanist, I was very inexperienced as a vocal soloist. She was patient, so patient!! With my music degree I never taught in the public schools, but I've been a church musician for almost 50 years and taught private piano for 40 years. She was a tremendous influence in my musical career.

On behalf of North Central and WIsconsin NATS, I send deepest condolences to all of you at this sad time. Joyce was a special mentor to me when I was a new teacher and was very involved in our State Chapter over the years, holding several leadership posts if I recall correctly. May she rest in peace.
