Obituary of Winona H. Campbell

Winona H. Campbell age 81, died Friday morning, October 9, at Fairhaven in Whitewater, WI where she was a resident. Winona was born to Harry and Mildred Campbell on January 18, 1934, in Nashville, Illinois. Her childhood and early education was completed in Nashville, Il, and she graduated from Nashville Community High School in 1952. Winona graduated from the National College for Christian Workers with a BA in Religious Education and Sociology in 1956 at Kansas City, MO. She attained further education at Northwestern University and Garrettt Theological Seminary; University of Illinois at Chicago, Jane Addams School of Social Work. Winona worked with the Board of Mission of the Methodist Church North Alabama Conference, the Methodist Church Idaho Conference, Rural Church and Community Worker in Eastern Oregon. She was employed by the Counsel on World Service and Finance, United Methodist Church. After further education in the School of Social Work, she became Director of Social Work at the St. Terese Medical Center and Naval Hospital Great Lakes. She retired from Great Lakes in June 2000. Winona's life was very busy after retirement with her dedication to church work service and her many areas of enjoyment; music, computers, travel, photography, sewing, cooking and watching sports, especially the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. Winona met Jean Leedham when they were in college. They both became deeply involved in their careers but they met again in the Chicago area and found it advantageous to live together until their retirements. At that time they decided to live in Wisconsin and moved to Bloomington Acres in Whitewater. After several years, they moved to Fairhaven. Winona was a charter member of the AA building 2nd floor wine time group. Winona is survived by her loving companion and faithful friend, Jean Leedham; an aunt and cousin in St. Louis and others in Milwaukee. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, October 16, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Whitewater. Friends may call after 3:00 pm on Friday at the church until the time of service. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to Fairhaven. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater, WI is assisting the family.
