Nikolas Basich

Obituary of Nikolas Basich

Nikolas "Nick" Basich, age 85 of Fort Atkinson passed away on October 22, 2015 at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Nick was born on December 11, 1929 and the last child in his family of 10, whos parents immigrated from Yugoslavia, settling in Berkeley, IL. He remained close especially with his brothers throughout his life and enjoyed telling stories of the good ole days of his childhood and working for the Northwestern Railroad. Nick was a kind and gentle man who was a no-frills guy of flannel shirts, white t-shirts and jeans. He rarely suffered many sick days in his 85 years and would often joke his decades spent as an auto body technician breathing paint fumes had preserved him. He enjoyed giving loved ones nicknames, and everyone that was dear to him had one. Nick had a passion for Wii Bowling and enjoyed his friendships at the Fort Senior Center and going gambling. Nick dearly loved his canine companions, having many throughout his life, and enjoyed taking his current pup Rudy to the dog park. Nick was easy going, and had a loving, generous heart, giving unconditional love to his family and friends. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his wife of 47 years Sandra (Olsen), his daughters Wendy (Mike Haagensen) of Cambridge, WI and Tracy (Tom Patterson) of Fort Atkinson, WI, and grandkids, Riley, Cameron, Maren, Mitch and Sam and many extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Steven and Angelina (Uzulac) and siblings David, Daisy, Steven, Robert, Daniel, Susan, Ruby, Helen, and Anna. A private memorial service will be held, however those wishing to make donations in memory of Nick should direct them to Jefferson Country Humane Society or to Pattys Paws in Fort Atkinson.
