Obituary of Adeline M. Garthwait

Adeline M Garthwait, age 97, of Fort Atkinson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 8, 2015 in the home she lived in for 74 years. Adeline was born in Fort Atkinson on September 25, 1918, the daughter of Roland and Maude (Lazotte) Hartel. She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1936. On May 7, 1941, she married her high school sweetheart Edward Garthwait. He passed away on October 5, 2001. She was employed at Citizen State Bank for 20 years and retired in 1980. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Her life was dedicated to her family. She adored her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Family meant everything to her and she meant everything to her family. She is survived by one son, Richard (Yvonne) Garthwait of Arizona; two daughters, Mary (Ed) Zech of Fort Atkinson and Pam Wheeler of Fort Atkinson; a son-in-law, Mike Helfey of Milwaukee; Sister: Shirley McQuade of Whitewater; 9 grandchildren: Thomas (Tatiana) Garthwait of Arizona; James (Liz) Garthwait of Illinois; Zeke Yackels of Fort Atkinson; Melissa (Scott Hoerth) Wheeler of DeForest; Matt (Christina) Garthwait of Germantown; Somer (Josh) Majewski of Fort Atkinson; T.J. Garthwait of Milwaukee; Jenni Wheeler of Washington and Jonathan Zech of Fort Atkinson; and 11 great grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons James and Thomas, a daughter Susan Hefley, a son-in-law Mike Wheeler, and a sister Arvilla Humbach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30AM on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1660 Endl Blvd, Fort Atkinson, WI with Father Bill Nolan celebrating. Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson, WI and after 10:30AM on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the church until the time of the Mass. Donations can be made to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson, WI or to Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Shauna Meyer, Rainbow Hospice, and Visiting Angles Nursing Service for all their help. "There will never be another person as special as our mom, grandma, and great grandma was." The Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
