Obituary of Vernetta Alberta Gruenwald

Vernetta Alberta Gruenwald, age 93, of Cambridge, WI, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015, at Alden Estates of Countryside in Jefferson, WI. Vernetta was born in Wild Rose, Wisconsin the daughter of Albert and Christine (Reetz) Nielson. On August 29, 1940, Vernetta married Robert Gruenwald in Dubuque, Iowa. Robert preceded her in death on August 25, 1990. Vernetta had resided in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin of 20 plus years and then moved to Cambridge, WI in 2003. She worked as a nurses aid and a receptionist but was a homemaker most of her life. Vernetta was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and playing games. She also served as a foster parent for five years. Surviving are: Her children: Sharon (Roger) Jacobson, Cambridge, WI and Timothy J. (Joan) Gruenwald, Janesville, WI, eight grandchildren: Julie (Steve) Brzeski, Robin Jacobson, Rick (Stacey) Jacobson, Sandy L. Jacobson, Jackie (Tom) Joachim, Wendy (Zach) Hill, Robert (Beth) Gruenwald, and James (Colleen) Gruenwald, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two sisters: Margaret Palmer, Green Bay, WI and Rosemary Hintz, Sturgeon Bay, WI, and two brothers: William Nielson, Sturgeon Bay, WI and Daniel (Joanne) Nielson, Sturgeon Bay, WI. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Vernetta was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Helen Nielson, and two brothers: Albert Nielson and Duane (Mary Jane) Nielson, and a sister-in-law Shirley Nielson. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, 208 N. Park Street, Cambridge, WI. Interment will be at the Bayside Cemetery, Sturgeon Bay, WI Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to the Cambridge Library.
