Obituary of Richard E. Northey

Richard E Northey, age 95, of Fort Atkinson, WI passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the Alden Estates of Countryside in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Richard was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin on January 27, 1920, the son of William W. and Ruth (Roberts) Northey. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School with the class of 1937, whose surviving members continue to meet for a reunion every year since graduation. He was active in the Young Farmers Club and the FFA. Dick farmed until he was age 40, and began working for the Lake Mills School District. He retired from Crepaco in Lake Mills after 20 years of service. Dick married Betty Radke who preceded him in death. On January 25, 2002, Dick married Dolores "Dorrie" (Bick) Roberts. Dick served as a part time police officer for the City of Lake Mills and was on the Lake Mills City Council for several years. Dick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson, and Jefferson County Masonic Lodge #9. He was elected President of the Fort Atkinson High School Alumni Association, and volunteered for the American Red Cross. Dick was known for his sense of humor. He loved to travel and he enjoyed bird watching and the outdoors. Over the years, Dick never lost his interest in farming. Surviving are: Wife: Dorrie Northey, Fort Atkinson, WI, Two Daughters: Patricia Northey, Sun Prairie, WI, and Kathleen (Richard) York, Gainesville, GA, Grandchildren: Mark (Shirley) Zimmerman, Janesville, WI, Tim (Molly) Zimmerman, Johnson Creek, WI, Meg (Jeff) Palmer, Courtland, Ohio, Steve York, Sugar Hill, GA, and Michael (Hillary) York, Buford, GA, Stepdaughter: Kathleen (Thomas) Roberts, LaCrosse, and step-grandchildren: Laura (Matthew) Langhout, Oakdale, MN, Stephanie (Scott Ostrowski) Poast, EauClaire, WI. Laura (Bert) Pinsonneault, Madison, WI, and Karl Roberts, Norfolk, VA, Dick is further survived by other relatives, friends, and his faithful companion Buddy. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Betty, a grandson Andy Zimmerman, sisters: Roberta (Neal) Marshall and Edna (Frank) Brown, and a step-son Michael Roberts. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the Nitardy Funeral Homes Chapel, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson, WI with Rev. Bryan Engfer officiating. A Masonic Service will be held at 10:45AM. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Friends may call from 9-11AM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson until the time of the services. The family invites those in attendance to Lexington Courts Club House, 1500 Raveen Street for a luncheon after the service. Memorials may be made to the Charity of One's Choice.
