Obituary of Claude Edward Kraus

Claude Edward Kraus, 81, of Fort Atkinson, passed away February 23, 2016. He was born in Otter Creek, Wisconsin, on March 24, 1934, and was one of 12 children born to the late Emma and Edward Kraus. Claude married his beloved wife, Janet Thayer Kraus, 60 years ago on June 25, 1955 and they raised four children together in Fort Atkinson. Claude operated Kraus Masonry as a mason contractor for 52 years. His craftsmanship can be seen in the central fireplace at the Fireside Restaurant, the tower at Evergreen Cemetery, many storefronts on Main Street, and many other homes and businesses throughout the area. He was an avid sportsman and was a member of the Fort Atkinson Conservation Club, Jefferson Sportsman Club, the NRA, and was past President of the Fort Rifle Club. He enjoyed hunting and trap shooting with his family and his many friends for his entire life. Claude also served as a board member of the Fort Atkinson Board of Zoning Appeals. He had a strong sense of community and was always willing to help out when asked. Claude joined his buddies for poker night regularly for many years. The family often held regular poker events at home, and a great poker night with lots of good food brought a twinkle to his eye. He is survived by his wife and three children, Jeana (Jim) Traver, Todd (Tammy) Kraus, Jodi (Craig) Swenson, and was preceded in death by his son, John Claude Kraus. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jared (Amber) Kraus, Ashley (David) Pauli, and Eric Kraus and three great-grandchildren, Josh, Kaitlyn, and Harper. Claude will be dearly missed by his family and friends. You are invited to help them celebrate his life at a visitation at Nitardy Funeral Home, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson, WI from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016, and on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Nitardy Funeral Home with Rev.
