Obituary of James B. Miller

James B. Miller III, affectionately known as "Mills," age 74, of Whitewater, WI� passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at his home. Jim was born on January 24, 1942 in Whitewater, WI to James B. and Lorraine (Horn) Miller II. He graduated from Whitewater High School in 1960 and from UW-Whitewater in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.� Jim then went on to earn his Master's Degree in Physical Education from Winona State University in 1966. On January 22, 1966 Jim married Carol Ponyicsanyi in Monticello, WI. He taught at Fort Atkinson High School as a physical education teacher and driver's education instructor.� In 1969 Jim was hired by UW-Whitewater where he worked in the athletic department� in many different capacities until his passing, most notably his 17 years as the head baseball coach with a career record of 416-222.� In 2009 UW-System Board of Regents approved naming the baseball stadium in his honor- James B. Miller Stadium. Jim enjoyed golfing, watching sports, was a member of the UW-Whitewater/Community Optimist Club and many other organizations associated with UW-Whitewater and the community. He is survived by his wife, Carol, brother Tom (Bonnie) Miller, Whitewater, brother-in-law, Jack (Helen) Ponyicsanyi, Orfordville, WI., nieces; Janeen (Dan Podzilni) Ponyicsanyi, Seattle, WA., Deborah Peoples and Amy Austin of Milwaukee and nephew, John (Jee Yoon) Ponyicsanyi, Bethesda, MD. Memorial Services will be held at 4PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Kris Russell Volleyball Arena in the UW-Whitewater Williams Center, 907 W. Schwager Drive, Whitewater, WI. Visitation will be from 3-7PM on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, 550 N. Newcomb Street, Whitewater, WI. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the James B. Miller Memorial Fund through the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Foundation at 800 W. Main St., Whitewater, Wi 53190. Contributions will support an endowment fund supporting Warhawk Athletics in Jim Miller's memory.
