Obituary of Douglas Thomas Haferman

Douglas Thomas Haferman, age 84, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Wellington Place in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Douglas was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin on June 28, 1931, the son of Arthur and Anna Ruth (Kreklow) Haferman. He was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. On June 16, 1950, Doug married Wanda Suzanne Schmidt at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. Doug served his country in the Army National Guard in the 32nd Red Arrow Infantry Division. Doug worked for Jones Dairy Farm for over 36 years. After his retirement at the age of 54, Doug had numerous part time jobs. He enjoyed helping at the church and school and loved the outdoors. Doug was a very generous person. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are: His wife of 66 years: Wanda Haferman of Fort Atkinson, Children: Valrie (Arthur) Houk of Fort Atkinson, and Mark (Julie) Haferman of McFarland; Sister: Marge (Ronald) Engler of , Cambridge, Grandchildren: Ryan Houk and his daughter Gabriella, Matthew Houk and his son Landon, Laura (Dan) Evenson and their son Beau. Doug was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles and Claude. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 10, at 10 a.m. at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson with Rev. Matthew Vik officiating. Burial with full military honors, will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson, WI from 5-7PM on Thursday, June 9, 2016 and from 9-10AM on Friday at the Nitardy Funeral Home until the time of the services. A special thank you to the staff at Wellington Place, the staff at Sienna Crest, Rainbow Hospice, and Pastor Scharrer for the prayers and compassion during Dad's final days.
