I come late to this obituary.
I had the oppotunity to know Brian Soper with thousands of hours of interaction and love.
Another example of a more witty, DETERMINED, loving, morally guided, and simply exquisite person has never existed to the best of my knowledge. I was not always fair with Brian, but rest rest assured that he was never a victim. That is, with one exception; His unyielding love once earned.
Dr. George Gay proved that he loves Brian, and the whole ******* world owes them both a place of honor an thanks.
I certainly do.

I went to Sherman St elementary school with Brian. He had such a charismatic personality and what a sense of humor. At an early age Brian taught me that a disability won't hold you back unless you let it. I extend my condolences to the family. RIP Brian.

Sorry to here of your loss. Brian and I were friends all through school. We played football ( even broke his arm) but never stop him. He swam and never back down from a dare. Glad he had a great love and blessed friends. He was liked by all with his smile and gift of enjoying life. God bless you and his family. Walter Petersen

I remember Brian from high school. Despite his disabilities he was Always upbeat and friendly with everyone. He was smart, articulate and funny. As with many that you go to school with, after graduation you lose track. I was thrilled to read that he had such a full and loving life. He will be missed by many especially those who loved him most. This world was a better place because of Brian! My condolences to Brian's family as they work through this very difficult time.
Sincerely,
Jackie Augustus

I'm so damned sad to learn that Brian died. I know his health wasn't the best, but the two of you should have had a long and happy life together. To lose the love of your life is beyond unfair, although "fair" and "life" are two words that rarely go together.
I hope he had an easy ending.

Dr. Gay,
It crushed my heart this morning when I read about Brian's passing. I lost my husband after only 7 years of marriage. I know loss and the void it left in my life. I can only begin to imagine the gravity of your loss. My heart is with you. My prayers are with you. And, in my mind and soul, I'm giving you a huge hug of comfort and love right now. If I have the chance to see you personally, that hug will be real along with my sorrow for your loss and my hope and encouragement that, through this time of grief, you can somehow square your shoulders and find the strength and courage to keep walking on, one step at a time. - LaVonne Reschke, Cambridge

I remember the great technique Brian and George had for lighting the candles at University United Methodist Church, while the church existed. I was glad to be able to greet Brian at the Overture Center, just before a concert. George will be in my thoughts and prayers. Russell Attoe

I had the privilege of playing along side Brian in the bell choir for many years. I always felt like he had his hands full, trying to watch the music and make sure I was behaving myself! I loved getting together for the yearly Bell Choir party because he and George were amazing chefs. I will miss his laugh and cherish the memories I have of him.

Dear George -- it was with sadness that I read about Brian's death -- I recall fondly his warmth and sense of humor -- going back to the time many years ago when you two sat on our porch swing together one evening. Even then I thought you should get married -- although it took a while for that to be a reality!
I'll look forward to joining you in the celebration of his life when you schedule it.
(My email has changed -- it's now jbeasley@wisc.edu.)
