Luellen "Lu" Borchardt

Obituary of Luellen "Lu" Borchardt

LU BORCHARDT, 65 of Cambridge passed away on May 2nd, 2024 at her home after a 18 month long battle with cancer, with her children Doug and Krystal, by her side.

Lu was born May 16, 1958 in Fort Atkinson to Lucy and Marlin (Bun) Borchardt. She grew up in Cambridge, graduating from the class of 1976.

Lu worked for 40 years at American Family Insurance starting as a typist for Personal Lines, transitioned into working as a support analyst for IT, and then being promoted to a Help Desk Supervisor. She continued on to become the Director of IT Service and Support. Lu loved her team and was extremely devoted to her job.

Lu was the best mom, she would do anything for her kids and added so much joy and fun to their lives. She was also a bit of a jokester and enjoyed playing pranks on people (the most memorable being dressing up as the grim reaper for several milestone birthdays for leaders at AmFam and creeping around their offices without saying anything, one of whom was so startled they turned around and ran into a door). She loved football (ON WISCONSIN, GO PACK GO), playing Yahtzee, Sheepshead and Euchre, and recently discovered a renewed passion for travel.

She is survived by her children Krystal and Doug Prochnow; brothers Merlin (Tiana) Borchardt, Roger Borchardt; nieces Sam (Art) Ponce, Stephanie (Nick) Schill, Kim (Ty) Campanie, Toni (Brady) Gilbertson and nephews Steve (Becky) Borchardt and Mike Borchardt, as well as many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bun and Lucy, and her sister-in law Joy.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Special thanks to Rainbow Hospice and her UW Cancer Care team.
