Obituary of Carol Jean Gruber

Carol Jean Gruber (nee Hoesly)

Fort Atkinson, WI – Carol Gruber entered heaven peacefully on September 5, 2022. She was born December 13, 1936 to Elmer and Aslaug Hoesly of New Glarus. She was a graduate of New Glarus High School and UW-Platteville. She married Don Gruber on August 8, 1959.

Carol was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years, with the majority spent instructing at St. Joseph Catholic School.

Carol was happiest when spending time with her family. She also enjoyed reading, playing bridge, attending the theater, gardening, and decorating the home for all holidays. She spent countless hours supporting Don’s coaching career and attending children’s/grandchildren’s sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dwight. She is survived by her husband, Don, of 62 years; her children, Mark (Dawn) Gruber of Burlington, Gayle (Jeff) Boos of Fort Atkinson, Greg (Janine) Gruber of Sun Prairie; her grandchildren, Nicole (Mark) Gavigan, Tanner (Bree) Boos, Braeden Gruber, Josh Gruber, Kaelyn Gruber; and two great grandchildren, Cayson and Callie Gavigan.  She is further survived by her sister, Delores (Ron) Einerson, brother-in-law Jim (Jo) Gruber, sister-in-law Janis Hoesly; and numerous nieces and nephews.    

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Carol’s life on Friday, September 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rosary at 9:30 am, visitation at 10 am, mass at noon, followed by private burial and then a luncheon.
