Obituary of Ruth Olena Steinke

Ruth Olena STEINKE, age 96, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, passed away, Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Wellington Meadows in Fort Atkinson, WI. Ruth was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 12, 1912, the daughter of Robert and Olena (Olesen) Morrison. Ruth moved to Fort Atkinson from Drummond, Wisconsin in 1930 to live with the Vernon and Betty Kaufman family where she helped with housework and raising their children. She graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1932, went to Whitewater Normal, and later attended UW - Madison. She taught in one room rural schools in the Fort Atkinson area for seven years. She later worked at Hoard's Dairyman for many years. For 20 years she was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program, and the Fort Health Care Center Women's Auxiliary. Ruth married John Schenk, a farmer in Busseville, Wisconsin in 1939. John preceded her in death in January of 1946. Ruth later married Raymond Steinke in 1949, who preceded her in death in October of 1975. Ruth was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Atkinson where she was a member of a circle for 20 years. Ruth loved to sew and crochett. Surviving are: two daughters: Sandra (Sid) Frame, Lincoln, CA, and Dawn (Bob) Haugom, Cincinnati, OH, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters: Mary Lebo, Fort Atkinson, WI, and Edith Taylor, Prairie du Chein, WI, and brother: Cliff (Irene) Morrison, WA. Ruth was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, William and Chester Morrison, two sisters, and a grandson-in-law. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 11:00AM at the First United Methodist Church, Fort Atkinson with Rev. John W. Wells officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Friends may call from after 9:00AM on Saturday at the church until the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the First United Methodist Church or to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson Co. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
