Obituary of Clayton W. Heitz

Clayton W. Heitz, age 94, of Fort Atkinson, died on July 4, 2009 at Wellington Meadows. Clayton was born on August 4, 1914 on a farm in Oakland Township, the son of Warner F. and Hulda (Klement) Heitz. He served our country in the Army during WWII, honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1946. On September 8, 1937 he married Harriet H. Justman, who preceded him in death on January 19, 1993. Surviving are, son: Lance (Diane) Heitz, Presque Isle, MI; daughter: Nannette (Ken) Johnson, Weston, WI; 4 grandchildren: Graham (Jennifer) Heitz, Portage, Dana Heitz, NY, Amy (Bryan) Kohlwey, Weston, WI, and Eric (Irmalia) Johnson, Kamuela, HI; 4 great-grandchildren: Owen and Ethan Heitz and Chase and Taryn Kohlwey, and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1932. From 1934-1936 he attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Clayton was active in 4-H and also in FFA. Clayton spent 33 years in the poultry and livestock feed industry. He managed territories for Central Soya, Fort Wayne, IN in their Master Mix feed division in Jacksonville, IL, Ann Arbor, Saginaw, MI, La Crosse, WI, and Rochester, MN. He also managed a large area territory for Cargill, Inc., Nutrena feed division, and supervised six consumer salesmen after moving back to Fort Atkinson in 1969. He retired on March 1, 1979. After returning to Fort Atkinson, Heitz became active in Trinity English Lutheran Church. He served on the Church Council for three terms as Council President, and chaired the Finance Committee for several years. Clayton was a member of the Elks, American Legion, and Masons. He was active in senior citizen�s organizations, serving on the boards of the Senior Citizen Service Center, Inc. as President or Chairman, served on the Advisory Board to the City Director of Parks and Recreation, and on the Board of Directors of AARP. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 from 4-6pm at Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson with Masonic Service at 6pm, and on Wednesday from 10am until the time of service.
