Obituary of Leota Mae Baassler

Leota Mae BAASSLER, age 89, of Hebron, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Countryside Home, in Jefferson, WI. Leota was born in Sullivan, Wisconsin on May 30, 1920, the daughter of Glen and Leona (Hensey) Strike. Leota spent all of her life in Jefferson County, where she grew up on the Strike farm and later farmed with her husband near Palmyra. She graduated from Whitewater City High School in 1937. On May 12, 1945, Leota married Carl Baassler in Rome, Wisconsin. Carl preceded her in death on May 13, 1996. Leota worked as an inspector for Waukesha Motors, was a telephone operator for Northwest Telephone Company in Palmyra and later worked at Whitewater Electronics and Nasco until retiring in 1982. Her last 37 years were spent in Hebron where she continued her love of gardening, crafts, reading and puzzles. She was a member of the Hebron United Methodist Church. She was a sweet, gentle and caring person who will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family who adored her and to whom she gave so much love. Leota was always a hard working woman and very active at the church in Hebron for as long as she was able. Surviving are: Son: Don (Judy) Baassler, Crystal Lake, IL, Two Grandsons: Brett (Stephanie) Baassler, Tulsa, OK, and Ryan Baassler, Crystal Lake, IL, Great-Grandsons: Jarod, Alex, and Logan, Great-Granddaughter: Katie, Two Sisters: Betty Lou (Edward) Acker, Phoenix, AZ, and Janet Hoskins, Delafield, WI, Brother: Roger (Betty) Strike, Helenville, WI, and Sister-in-Law: Gertrude Wilson, Palmyra, WI. Leota was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Lucille. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 12:00PM at the Hebron United Methodist Church, Hebron, Wisconsin with Rev. Karen Klatt officiating. Burial will be in the Hebron Cemetery, in Town of Hebron, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 10:30AM on Saturday at the church until the services. For those wishing to send an expression of condolence, the family requests contributions be made through the family to the American Cancer Society or NAMI National to support research to help those suffering from illnesses that cry out for a cure.
