Mr. von Allmen did more than just coach us, he taught us the value of hard work and that even if you weren't the best, if you put in the time, you'd get your rewards. He was an exceptional man who gave more to the Arrowhead girls' basketball program than he was getting back, but you could see he loved what he did. He touched so many lives and it is amazing to read what wonderful things everyone has to say about his life. He is missed greatly.

Our family extends our sympathy in the loss of your brother Pete. Our family is also saddened by his loss. We met Pete through our daughter Terri many years ago. He has been her longtime friend and mentor and has left a legacy of many fun filled stories. His appeal to so many was that he was young at heart. His loss is felt throughout the entire State.

My deepest sympathy to the Von Allmen family. In 1968 Medford High School had a new high school with a swimming pool and they needed a swimming coach, so Pete was hired. For whatever reason, the pool wasn't completed for another year so Pete helped coached the sophomore boys basketball that winter. He taught us the fundamentals of M-T-M defense (that I used through my coaching career) when everyone else was playing zone. He was a great student of the game and a great teacher. I bumped into him from time to time and always had time for "catch up" conversation. He will be greatly missed by many of us in the basketball community

To the family of Pete von Allmen,
We send our deepest sympathy to the family. I happen to be a parent of a student who worked her tail off in basket ball practice and never saw a lot of game time, and yes, it hurt her a little at the time, but the lesson learned was that you don't always get what you want. She also had great times sitting on the bench, next to him, miming his actions during games....she loved his plaid jacket. Was he our hero, no, but, he was one of the stepping stones who taught our daughter to be a successful individual in the education system and as a volleyball coach. Thanks Pete.

Theresa and Hans,
Sorry to read about Peters passing , and he wasn't that old. In fact he was the youngest of you 3 . Can't remember much about him when you first came to the USA, but I do remember those first days at school in Albany. Sure didn't take long for Hans to learn how to blow spit-wads at the girls and get Mrs. Reinitz all upset or was it Mrs. Edwards ???( At my age the mind is not as sharp as it could be) Sure would be nice to hear from you guys again.
Sending all our Sympathies to you both and your families too. May good memories of the past be of help in the upcoming days.

To the von Allmen family,
I have many memories of Coach from the years I was coaching at Waukesha South. Coach and I were friends off the court and competitors on the court. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him as a coach and friend. My favorite memory is of Coach's last game at Arrowhead when we squeaked out a victory over yet another awesome Arrowhead team. Although I've been out of touch, I often think of him and the numerous times we met both on and off the court. Coach von Allmen will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

My deepest sympathy to the von Allmen family and to all of Pete's friends and colleagues. I had the privilege and pleasure to work and socialize with Pete from 1979-88 at Arrowhead High School. Pete was a dedicated professional, outstanding coach, and good friend. I especially enjoyed our rounds of golf during the summer months. He was an inspiration to the many players and students he coached and taught. As a colleague and friend, I have many fond memories that I will share in his memory; almost as long as the stories he liked to share with us! He will be missed by all who knew him. Dale Fleury

I am another friend from Arrowhead. Shocked to hear that Pete has passed on. I will remember Pete as a wonderful conversationalist who always had a smile and a bit of sage wisdom to impart. You always knew how Pete felt about the topics touched on in a conversation, and often his opinion was spot on. I am happy to have known this great guy, but I am also humbled by the number of kids he helped develop into adults on and off the basketball court. My condolences to Pete's family. I am saddened I will never be able to share another friendly talk with him.

To the von Allmen family,
The news of Pete's passing brings back many memories, the family lived one block north of my house in Monroe when we were growing up. Pete was two years older than I but I remember him swinging on our swingset in his liederhosen in the very late 40's. Pete played basketball and baseball at high school. I especially remember batting against him one summer when he threw an inside curve ball that didn't break, just before it hit me he yelled DUCK! I had a bruise for two weeks. Much later after we had moved to Baraboo,Pete brought his girls basketball team here for a game. We had a delightful talk between the JV and varsity game, he remembering my parents and me remembering his mothers cookies. My deepest sympathy goes to his family, he was a great guy.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of my dear AHS coach. I recently discovered he was coaching at nearby Whitewater late last season and never did get the chance to drop in at a game. An opportunity missed on my part, now I wish I had made that a priority for last season instead of thinking I had this season to track him down. The last time I was able to see him was when he coached at Fort Atkinson and I popped into one of the open gyms to tell him I earned a scholarship to play at UNLV. I can't remember now if I said the words THANK YOU to him, but I know he heard my gratefulness when I was telling his team about my experiences and crediting him with the chances he gave me and the drive he helped instill in me. He never gave up on me, and many know he could have more than once. He challenged me instead, and I'm better for it because I learned to challenge myself. I owe him a lot for what he taught me, he will always be my coach. (Thank you, Pete.)

I saddened to hear of Pete's passing. I worked with Pete for twenty years at Arrowhead High School. I consider him to be one of the positive, shaping- forces in the rise of that school to its current prominence. He taught me a lot about being a teacher and a coach. He remains one of those unforgettable
"characters" that you meet in life. My condolences to his family.

Hello..I am just one of the kids from Monroe,WI who followed Pete around throughout his growing up. He was six years older than I but I can remember watching him shoot baskets at East School. We lived on 9th street too so he was already a hero for my younger brother and myself. In grade school we went to every high school basketball game. Pete was also my swim team coach in Monroe for many summers and passed on his knowledge of the butterfly stroke to me. He was a mentor and close friend to Steve Rufenacht who was also a friend of our group. We tragically lost Steve at the age of 9 years old but the joy and closeness he and Pete shared was outstanding. I met up with Pete at Cheese Days a couple of years ago at Baumgartner's and we had a nice talk. Pete was charming, smart, a good friend to all.

Our deepest condolences to Pete's family and friends. Our daughter plays basketball for UW Whitewater so we have known Pete for about 3 years. He was a wonderful man and a great Coach. We all had a lot of respect for him and will miss him dearly. No one can replace Coach Pete for the parents or players. His smile and calm coaching techniques were a rare gift. He was very proud of his players. I know I will remember Pete in Hope Michigan when the team made it to the Final 4, he was so happy to be a part of it. He impacted so many people and students in his teaching and coaching. He will be missed by anyone that new him.
With deepest sympathy,

I wanted to write my condolences to Pete's family. I coached with Pete at Beloit College and embarked on an adventure with Pete, in which I had no idea I signed up for. The man meant to teach all of us about basketball, but ended up teaching us more about life then he ever knew. He was a great man. I cannot tell you all of the stories I had through my short time, but I thank God every day for the chance I got to know him. He was always a joy to be around and had knowledge pouring out of him, again, it could not be said enough, he was a great man!

Pete Von Allmen:
It was an honor to be the pep band director during Pete's fabulous career at Arrowhead H.S. He was always friendly, warm, encouraging and above all, interested in everything surrounding him while at Arrowhead. Pete was always there to offer words of encouragement to the students, his team and even my band. Not only was Pete highly respected for his coaching, he was a beloved teacher to his students, and a warm and welcoming personality to all at Arrowhead.
I remember the first state championship he and his girls won. They were all so excited that the entire team, along with Pete, sat and remained on the court to continue to enjoy the excitment and atmosphere after the game was over and the crowd was departing.
The emotionally charged atmosphere during the girls games, especially the ones against Pius, created an unforgettable experience for every member of the crowd, no matter who ultimately won the contest. Winning or loosing, Pete was just as gratious to everyone who sought him out.
Pete Von Allmen was a real "class act" who I got to know well, respect, and miss when he retired. I will miss him even more now that he is no longer with us in person. I am sure that his spirit will remain with hundreds of students, fellow teachers and coaches, including myself, forever.

To the Von Allmen Family,
I had Peter (Mr. Von Allmen) in high school and feel to this day that he was the most influentual teacher I have had. What set Peter apart from the other teachers was the way he could reach students of all levels and get them interested in something. I was a horrible student with learning disabilities, but loved my english class with Mr. VonAllmen and was the only A- I received in school. He trully made an impact on me..my prayers are with you.

To Pete's family,
I was so saddened to hear of Pete's passing. He was to move in to my home in Oshkosh on October 1st so he could start working with our women's basketball team as an assistant coach. I was truly looking forward to having him as a "roomie" as he put it. He was truly a remarkable man. I heard it said once that grief is the price we all pay for love and grief is what I feel now. We all lost a good one this time. You are in my thoughts.

I've only known Pete for about 5 years through the UW-Whitewater basketball program but feel as if I've known him forever. He will most certainly be missed. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of being coached by Coach von Allmen for four years in Fort Atkinson and am grateful for everything he taught me not only about basketball but also about life in general. I think of him often, even more than a decade later. He was a great influence in my life and no doubt in the lives of hundreds of other young ball players.

Mr. Von Allmen was a terrific coach, teacher and friend. He taught me competitve intensity as my freshman basketball coach and brought out the best in my game. He spiced up his classroom with his wild wardrobe and he always made a point of asking how my school and sports were going. He made girls athletics acceptable and his teams put Arrowhead girls basketball on the map. He was not afraid to let his girls compete against boys in order to help them improve. He played an important role in my my upbringing and I am thankful for his time and efforts.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Pete's passing. He was my English teacher 20 years ago at Hartland Arrowhead High School, and as the years went by, we were able to catch up during his time as the basketball coach at Fort Atkinson. I always enjoyed our chats when we were able to see each other. He was a first-class coach and teacher, but more than that, a first-class human being. The state coaching fraternity took a big hit with his death. Coach von Allmen will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
