Obituary of Helmer Theodore Vasby

Helmer Theodore VASBY, age 99, of Cambridge, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Helen�s Happy Home in Deerfield. Helmer was born in Cambridge, Wisconsin on April 16, 1910, the son of Ole and Abigail (Kvitle) Vasby. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1928 and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1932 where he lettered in wrestling and received a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. On August 12, 1935, Helmer married Clara Fosdal, she preceded him in death on June 23, 1997. Helmer was a long-time Cambridge farmer and co-founder of Vasby Farms with his brother Johannes. Helmer was a sales representative for Renk Seed Corn in Sun Prairie and a top salesman for many years. He played baseball locally for many years in the Home Talent League. Helmer was a lifelong member of Willerup United Methodist Church in Cambridge. He and Clara enjoyed many trips together, traveling throughout the United States and to Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Central and South America. Surviving are: Daughters: Sharon (Lowell) Lund, Cambridge, WI, Carol (Darrell) Kenworthy, Marana, AZ, Vivian (Rolf) Burnie, Kingsbridge, Devon, England, and June (Arden) Autry, Galway, Ireland, Grandchildren: Twelve Grandchildren, Twenty-five Great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers and four sisters. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 3, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the Willerup United Methodist Church, Cambridge with Rev. Brian Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the Willerup Methodist Cemetery, Cambridge, Wisconsin. Friends may call from 12:00 until 2:00 PM on Thursday at the church.
