Obituary of Edwin Messmer

Edwin MESSMER, age 89, of Jefferson, Wisconsin, died March 20, 2010, at his home. Edwin was born on August 7, 1920 in the Town of Sumner to John and Alice (Strunk) Messmer. On June 1, 1945 Edwin married Elizabeth Cooper at her parents home in the Town of Coldspring. Ed was a hard worker and a dairy farmer for his entire life. He and Elizabeth have lived in rural Jefferson since 1947. Ed enjoyed reading and traveling, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Jefferson where he served on the council. He was a board member of the Lakeside Lutheran High School, and also belonged to the Lakeside men's club, the Farm Bureau, and the Jefferson County Holstein Association. Surviving are: Wife: Elizabeth Messmer, Jefferson, WI; Son: Edwin (Kathleen) Messmer, Johnson Creek, WI; 3 Daughters: Edith (Reynold) Kremer, Germantown, WI; Emily (Jerry) Chwala, Jefferson, WI; and Ellen Messmer, Jefferson, WI; 9 Grandchildren; 15 Great- Grandchildren; and Sister: Helen Cooper, Milton, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; Brother: Harry Messmer; Sister: Ruth Gonsolus; and Half-Brother: John Hundley. Funeral Services will be held TUESDAY, March 23, 2010 at 1:30pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jefferson, WI, with burial to follow in the Christburg Cemetery, located in Jefferson, WI. Visitation will be held from 11am until the time of service at the church.
