Obituary of Robert Kenneth Fixmer

Robert Kenneth (Bob) FIXMER, age 83, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin,died March 20, 2010 at the Countryside Home, in Jefferson, WI. Bob was born in Aurora, Illinois on October 27, 1926, the son of John P. and Mildred (Burgholzer) Fixmer and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. On August 23, 1947, Bob married Audrey L. Mettel in Aurora, Illinois. Bob was a teacher early in his career and later became a national educational consultant for D.C. Heath & Company, a text book publishing firm. He returned to teaching for MATC in both Watertown and Fort Atkinson from 2001- 2004. Bob was a philosopher, avid reader and colorful story teller. He was active with the community theater and played several roles, the most memorable of which was that of Chief Blackhawk in the local Blackhawk pageant. He enjoyed music and was a drummer, playing in dance bands. Bob was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Father Alfred Endres Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was designated as the first Lector and Eucharistic Minister under the late Father Zander, taught scripture classes and served on the St. Joseph School Board. In 2005 the St. Joseph Church library was dedicated in his name. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gregory and a brother, Warren Fixmer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin with Father Jay Poster and Father Bill Nolan concelebrating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 23 at Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson from 4-8 pm with the Knights of Columbus rosary at 8:00 pm and from 10-11AM Wednesday at the church. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to the St. Joseph School.
