Obituary of Mark Emil Mittag

Mark Emil MITTAG, age 67, of Fort Atkinson, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Mark was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin on July 13, 1942, the son of Chester August and Elsie Helen (Griese) Mittag. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1960 and from the UW-LaCrosse. Mark served in the Peace Corps in Indonesia and Morocco. On May 30, 1987, Mark married Joan (Boerner) LaRock in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Mark was a Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance agent for 43 years. He loved working and serving people, and retirement was not in his vocabulary. Mark was a long time member of the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Fort Atkinson Historical Society and served two terms as president. He served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Wisconsin Historical Society. He was also a member of the Friends of the Dwight Foster Public Library in Fort Atkinson. Mark was a member of the Wheelman Association and in 1976 participated in a ride from Detroit to Philadelphia on his high wheel bicycle. In the past 10 years he enjoyed many travels and major trips with his wife. Surviving are: Wife: Joan Mittag, Fort Atkinson, WI, Children: Barry (Special friend: Ruth Davis) LaRock, Lodi, WI, Bryan (Gina) LaRock, Windsor, WI, and Nicole (Mathias) LaRock-Mueller, Frankfurt, Germany, Four Grandchildren: Timothy LaRock, Ashley LaRock, Lena LaRock-Mueller and Ana LaRock-Mueller, Brother: Marlin (Polly) Mittag, Aurora, IL, Sister: Kathryne (Clark) Wangerin, Brookfield, WI, Brother: Dan (Karen) Mittag, Fall Creek, WI, Sister: Christine (John) Schrank, Reedsburg, WI, and Special Friends: Bill and Jill Amadon, Fort Atkinson, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, orther relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 6, 2010, at 4:30PM at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 1:00PM on Sunday at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson until the services.
