Obituary of Dean Edward Rhodes

Dean Edward RHODES, age 92, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at the Black Hawk Senior Residence in Fort Atkinson, WI. Dean was born in Manville, Illinois on October 5, 1917, the son of Daniel E. and Nell (Thrasher) Rhodes. He graduated from High School in Streator, Illinois. On June 19, 1943, Dean married Evelyn June Haines at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Atkinson. Evelyn preceded him in death on May 9, 1977. Dean retired from Montgomery Wards in Fort Atkinson. He owned Modern Floors and Paints in Fort Atkinson and owned "White Oaks" Cheese Store between Fort Atkinson and Whitewater. He also was co-owner of the Standard Oil Filling Station in Fort Atkinson. Dean raised black angus cattle, horses and ponies. He was a member of the Rock River Riders Saddle Club, the Jefferson County Rock and Gem Club, the Koshkonong Busy Bees 4-H Club, and was the county horse and pony project co-founder. Surviving are: Son: Douglas (Karen) Rhodes, Watertown, WI, Daughter: Jeanne (Larry) Duckett, Lakeview, AR, Grandchildren: Jodi Haseleu, Cindy Haase, Cherie (Dan) Miller, Todd (Tammy) Manske, Justin (Jamie) Rhodes, Brandon (Bianca) Rhodes and Anthony (Misty) Pope, Great-Grandchildren: Kayla, Anthony, Madison, Tanner, Erik, Noah, Thomas, Jordan, Megan, Danny, Cherie, Shawn, Ella and Brenna. Dean was preceded in death by his parents and seven sisters: Eva, Ruth, Treva, Lucille, Sarah, Nellie, and Evelyn and four brothers: Merle, Mike, Aaron, and Gerald. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 3, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 9:30AM on Friday at the funeral home until the services.
