Obituary of Ghering Frederick Schreiner

Ghering �Gary� Frederick SCHREINER, age 85, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at his home. Gary was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin on October 12, 1925, the son of Fred and Lura (Westphal) Schreiner. He attended the Monroe Grade School and Fort Atkinson High School. He joined the U.S. Marines during WWII and served his country in the Pacific. Following the war, Gary married Dorothy Jean Box on April 6, 1946 in Palmyra, Wisconsin. They were married for 64 years. Gary was employed at Jones Dairy Farm in Fort Atkinson and later with the U.S. Government as a federal meat inspector, retiring in 1987. Gary and Dorothy spent many years in the Hebron area, where he was active in local affairs, serving on the school board, a member of the Hebron United Methodist Church and the Methodist Church board of directors, and was one of the founding members of the Hebron Little League program. Gary was also an active Mason, spending over 60 years as a member of the Palmyra lodge, and was Master of the Lodge in 1958. He was also a member of Glen Humphrey Masonic Lodge in Dousman. He was also an avid sports fan, closely following the fortunes of the Packers and Cubs. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are: Wife: Dorothy J. Schreiner, Fort Atkinson, WI, Son: David (Ruth) Schreiner, Deerfield, WI, Daughter: Peggy (Dennis) Romo, Katy, TX, Grandchildren: Curt Schreiner, Jeff Schreiner, and Eric Matthews, Great-Granddaughter: Ada Jane Schreiner, Brother-in-Law: Lester LaMotte Sr, FL, and Sisters-in-Law: Renata Schreiner, Fort Atkinson, WI and Dolores Cory of Minocqua. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: William Schreiner and Walter "Butch" Schreiner and a sister: Lura �Bee� LaMotte. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 1:00PM at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Atkinson, WI with Rev. Karen Klatt officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 11:00AM on Saturday at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson until the time of the services.
