Obituary of Dorothy Beatrice Nelson

Dorothy Beatrice NELSON, age 93, of Whitewater, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at her home. Dorothy was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 31, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Lily (Popham) Lidbury. On July 15, 1939, Dorothy married Wendell Carlin Nelson in Fond-du-lac, Wisconsin. Wendell preceded her in death on September 18, 1999. In 1939 Dorothy and Wendell started Nelson�s Bus Service, operating it for many decades until the next generation took its turn. Dorothy was a member of the LaGrange United Methodist Church, and the Whitewater Lioness Club. Dorothy was always giving of her time and talents. She and her husband ran many different businesses over the years including a Shell Station and Marina in LaGrange, a cab company, and the bus service. She was also a very active member of the Lioness Club and worked at and baked for her church�s tent at the Walworth County Fair until 2009. As a fantastic dancer and an excellent cook, she tried to pass on these skills to her kids and grandkids, with varying degrees of success; just some of the small things that will be missed by all. What will be missed most though will be the love and guidance that she provided throughout her entire life. Surviving are: Her Children: Robert (Cindy Sunde) Nelson, Whitewater, WI, Howard (Chris) Nelson, Whitewater, WI, Donna (Scott) Herman, Whitewater, WI, and Linda (Steve) Steinhoff, Palmyra, WI; Ten Grandchildren: Tim (Mary Kay) Nelson, Wendy (Tracy) Signer, Deana (Doug) Grall, David (Carol) Nelson, Robert (Amy) Nelson Jr., Nicole Nelson, Michelle (Chad) Kopecky, Jonathan (Michelle) Marshall, Laura Marshall, and Courtney Nelson, and Eleven Great-Grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother Reginald Lidbury. Memorial Services will be held at 2PM on Sunday, January 2, 2011, at LaGrange United Methodist Church, LaGrange, Wisconsin. Inurnment will be in the Round Prairie Cemetery, Town of LaGrange, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 1PM on Sunday at the church until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers the family wishes you to consider a memorial to the Lauderdale-LaGrange Fire Department, The LaGrange United Methodist Church, The Whitewater Lioness Club, or to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson, WI.
