Obituary of Melvin Eugene Melton

Melvin Eugene Melton, 77, of Cambridge, Wisconsin and Coolidge, Arizona, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011, at the Casa Grande Regional Medical Center, in Casa Grande, Arizona. Melvin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 18, 1933, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Jacobson) Melton. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On February 13, 1965, Melvin married Loretta Mae Hanson at West Koshkonong Lutheran Church, Stoughton, Wisconsin. Loretta preceded him in death on October 13, 1989. On May 1, 2008, Melvin married Nancy Julseth Gjertson. Melvin was a Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff for 37 years, retiring in 1991. He was a former Lions Club Member and a life member of the VFW Post #9424. Melvin enjoyed bowling, coin collecting, playing cards and going to the casinos. Surviving are his wife Nancy Melton, Cambridge, WI, son Kyle (Jami) Melton, Edgerton, WI, daughters Melinda (Steve) Allman, Oconomowoc, WI, and Susan (Bob) Pillard, Central City, IA, stepchildren Linda (Darrell) Ellifson, Minocqua, WI, and Ronald Gjertson, Mundelein, IL, grandchildren Brittni Carlson, Jarett Melton, Jennifer (Shaun) Elliott, Alison Pillard, Jacob Pillard, Erik (Patti) Ellifson, Nick (Sharon Redlich) Ellifson, Brent Ellifson, Jessica (Scott) Reilly, Matthew Gjertson, great-grandchildren Aurora Elliott, Joshua Elliott, Connor Ellifson. He is further survived by his brothers Lloyd (Barbara) Melton, Cambridge, WI, Edward (Linda) Melton, Cambridge, WI, Clarence (Gloria) Melton, Cambridge, WI, sister Shirley (Wilson) Manion, Cottage Grove, WI. and nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Jacobson, a sister Lillian Sorum and brother-in-law Gerald Sorum. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 18, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the West Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 1911 Koshkonong Road, Stoughton, Wisconsin with Rev. Richard Dowling officiating. Burial will be in the West Koshkonong Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, 208 N Park , Cambridge, WI and after 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Kidney Foundation, American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
