Obituary of Hertha Martha Heth

Hertha Augusta Martha HETH, age 106, of Town of Koshkonong, Wisconsin, died February 18, 2011, at the Fort Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson, WI. Hertha was born in Johnstown on November 2, 1904, the daughter of Theodore and Olga (Schmidt) Heth. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Cold Spring. Upon graduating from 8th grade, her father got her a job for 22 cents an hour at the stocking factory in Fort Atkinson, where she worked as a "looper". She worked as a housekeeper and nanny for several years in Milwaukee and Chicago. While working in Chicago, she attended the School of Domestic Arts and Science, graduating in 1931 with a degree in tea room and institutional management. The most Hertha ever earned was $1.00 per hour. She enjoyed traveling North America in the 1930's and saw Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932. Hertha enjoyed gardening and observing wildlife and birds. Her passion was her exquisite cooking that she enjoyed doing up to days before her death. Surviving are her sister: Erna Rude, Edgerton, WI, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and one great-grandnephew. Hertha was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Alfred, Emil, and Edward Heth, and 4 sisters: Emoline Wenzel, Irene Hausz, Elsbeth Johnson, and Winifred Hathaway. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 11am, at Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Atkinson with Rev. Jeffrey Schallert officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from10am until the time of service at Nitardy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, located in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.
