My parents save me the papers so im usually several weeks behind. I just read about Ma and Pa Buddo. Two good people I'm sorry about your loss. Probably the last time I saw Pa Buddo. He broke his leg trying to jump over a tennis net that was to high or he didn't jump high enough. either way the net won.
My Condolences
It won't let me post until I add a gesture and there is no microphone

I have many fond memories of your mom,,, one being that whenever I came to your house she was ALWAYS SMILING!! She always made me feel so comfortable and invited,,, all of us "kids". Another memory of her and probably the biggest one is that it didn't matter if she was cooking,,, or cleaning,,, she was always singing! As a kid I always thought she was a "cool" mom. She was just so happy and friendly!! I will never forget when Todd and I were having our graduation party together and that morning she came down to help set up for it. We had speakers out on our screened in porch with the radio on and she was just be-bopping around setting up JAMMING to The Talking Heads "Burning down the house". Lol!! Lol!! I thought "Wow! What a cool mom".
My condolences to you Buddo, Jenny and Todd! And I will also say prayers to "outfit" for his health. Please give him a hug from the little neighbor girl down the hill. Love you all!

I considered Susan a pretty good friend. We met when the Rank Family moved out to the neighborhood where I grew up in Aztalan Township. Our kids were all around the same age.
The fondest memory I have with Susan is when we put together (she did the most) a puppet show and went to area schools for the Humane Society of Jefferson County to teach young kids about pet care. The main character of the show was "Melvin the Mutt." I believe Susan did Melvin and I read the script. It was by no means a professional presentation, but the kids liked Melvin and we had fun. I was so surprised and happy to see a picture of Susan and Melvin the Mutt in the slide show tribute.
Kids, animals, music, and food are the things that probably bonded us. In these later years when we got together it was mostly to have lunch.
I love her smile in the pictures. I loved her as a friend. I will miss her terribly much. I send my love and prayers to Jim, Buddo Jenny, and Todd and their families whether they are 2 legged or 4 legged.

Hello: In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin Coronavirus Response Fund. We feel this is the cause Mom would have chosen to support. We had an intimate "goodbye" gathering for her this morning: 12/28/2020. Thank you. - Buddo
Mom was deeply Caring,
Playful,
Whimsical,
Poetic,
Musical,
And Intuitively Spiritual.
These qualities made her an extraordinarily loving, fun, and wise Mother.
She could also be a trickster.
Sometimes she enjoyed saying things at exactly the wrong time.
I think I inherited her penchant to speak bluntly without the polite trait of self-filtering!
One example would be a Christmas Eve, 1982. It was just the five of us having an intimate family evening in the big formal living room with the baby grand piano, the blue carpet, and the crackling fireplace on Riess Rd. In the midst of the talking, laughing, singing and meal prep, Mom decided it was a good time to share some news. “Buddo? I have an announcement….
…You’re flunking out of college!” Mic drop!
((Hey, I wanted to be in L.A. and not Whitewater!))
She loved our immediate and extended families very deeply. I know she wishes we could have all been closer. Sometimes that big house on Riess Road felt like a distant planet from many people and places. But she filled the home with love, caring, cleanliness and wonderful cooking. Her cooking was amazing. And she made the best cookies, for EVERY occasion. I always asked what her secret is, and she would just say, “I just follow the recipe. You can do it too.” But I couldn’t, and still can’t match her magic.
No matter where I lived, she always managed to visit me. And she always brought fresh chocolate chip cookies in an old ice cream gallon pail, along with a package of new socks. All these years later, I still have unopened white socks from her. The cookies were eaten the minute she left.
Mom was sometimes caught between ambition and domesticity. Her era was the awkward time in history when women were just starting to shrug off the traditional ways of being a woman. She loved Gloria Steinem and progressive women’s rights, but she was also living a very traditional domestic, family-rearing life.
She didn’t have to work. Jimbo was an abundant provider. But she extended herself into the community and influenced many people through Planned Parenthood, the Humane Society, Jr Women’s Civic Club, and, more recently, the Cambridge Food Pantry.
She could be pretty feisty when it came to women’s rights and a woman’s position in society. It is because of her that I am keenly aware of domestic equalities. She made us know that MEN CAN, AND SHOULD, cook, clean and share ALL the duties with their partner!
I know she sometimes felt that maybe she could have done ‘more’ in life. But I believe most of us feel this as well. We do what we can do.
On my High School graduation, she gave me an intriguing little book. On the inside she wrote: “Buddo, this book contains valuable thoughts on just about everything in life. Congratulations! Love, Mom.” The book was “The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran, and I treasured it. Still do. Thanks Mom.
She chose one poem from the book and had it framed in our kitchen. I can still picture exactly where it was hung and I read it hundreds of times growing up.
On Children
Kahlil Gibran
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
Which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
But seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
As living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
And He bends you with His might
That His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
So He loves also the bow that is stable.
Thanks, Mom. “Love” seems too small a word.
You’ll be with me always. We’re part of one another forever.
Your first-born, Buddo.
