When we were little Barry and I were buddies. I lived just around the corner from the Wescott's on Grant Street and we had many adventures, most of which I can no longer recall. I do remember our big plan to dig a hole all the way to the other side of the world in China. It turned out to be more work than either of us wanted so we abandoned it. I also remember challenging each other to jump off the roof of their garage. I did it and he probably did it before I did. There was one time when we were playing that he hid behind a bush in their neighbor's (Draper's?) house. I was trying to find him and I swore that he somehow managed to vanish. I hadn't seen him come out from the bush but yet he wasn't where he should have been any longer. He was in his own back yard.
I also remember playing with his twin sister. I wish I could remember more details, but the overall impression I have from my memories and what people have written here to know Barry's participation in my life, even only for a short time, was a blessing.

So, sorry to hear of your passing Barry. You and Bridget were so kind to me as friends, and especially during the passing of my son. I remember your sense of humor, and entertaining stories. Also, the guitar and singing. I pray you rest in peace Barry, and Bridget that you have strength. Love Lisa

We loved Barry's humor and kind heart along with his entertaining stories. He fought valiantly to live life and win his battle with cancer and he never gave up. May you be in peace and may God bring comfort to your family.

Dear Bridget, my deepest sympathy to you and your family at this sad time. I was so saddened to hear of Barry's passing. He was a wonderful, kind, and funny person. I am sure he will be missed by all who knew him. And I know he loved you so much. He always had time to stop and talk, and had great stories. I am sure Barry and Mike are getting into something they shouldn't up there. My prayers are with you and your family. God bless you and take care of yourself...xoxo. Maureen

Barry, Barry we came into the world together (me 20 minutes before you) and now you’ve left moving onto a higher place beginning a new journey. I have such amazing memories growing up with you, side by side. You were my best buddy, friend, and playmate. We created playtimes filled with humor, laughter, and excitement. As a little boy with your pencil and paper with you at all times you were always drawing action figures. Yes, brother Barry, I will miss you. You’ve lived life to the fullest and have left your mark on many lives.
Bridget, you were his great love and you both were so devoted to each other. Thank you for being there for his lifetime.
Rest in Peace. I love you always, Your twin sister, Jeanne

Dear Bridget, Jeanne, and other family members,
I grew up with Barry and Jeanne as my cousins - same age and same schools throughout the years. Bridget and I rode horses together when we were younger. Lots of great memories even though I moved away from Fort Atkinson after high school.
More recently I remember how good Barry was to my father, Gordon Simonson. He used to visit my Dad and sit on the porch enjoying the Rock River view. He always brought humor and laughter with him. He was good medicine for everyone.
I hope there is comfort in knowing Barry is at peace. It is time to "let go and let God".

Barry was my funeral husband. Any time a family member died, Barry stepped in to be my escort at the funerals. My family members weren't very nice so Barry acted as a buffer. I remember going to Barry's horse's birthday party. Barry walked the horse into Whitewater for the party. The horse didn't get gifts but we write our checks to different animal organizations. Thanks, Barry for being such an awesome guy!

I met Barry 40 years ago in Whitewater, Wi. We shared a love for music and having a grand time. I can remember some beers and a piano that I played and he strumming his guitar. We remained friends after I moved from Whitewater to outside of Clinton where Barry taught art to my two daughters. We were veterans who shared a lot of memories through our acquaintance. I lost track of Barry after he retired from teaching. I remember him as a very fine house painter during his summer vacations from teaching. May the good lord rest your soul brother.

I always knew him as Mr. Wescott. He was my art teacher. He was the one who gave me my deep love of art and something to look forward to in school. I remember him telling ghost stories when we worked on a spooky painting for Halloween, along with other wonderful stories he'd tell throughout the year. I've become a successful artist in jewelry, and have Mr Wescott to thank for my wonderful journey.
Rest in peace.
