Annabelle Udey

Obituary of Annabelle Udey

Annabelle H. Udey

Annabelle Udey died peacefully in her bedroom, in her home in Fort Atkinson on May 20, 2019 after a brief illness.  She was 94 years old.  Born Annabelle Marie Hoessel in McFarland, Wisconsin, she grew up in Madison and Whitewater.  After graduating from College High and later Whitewater Teacher’s College, Annabelle began her career as a teacher at Jefferson High School.  She married Charles (Chuck) Udey and moved to Fort Atkinson where she lived for the remainder of her life.  Annabelle took a break from teaching to raise two children before returning to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to obtain her Master’s degree and then re-engaging as a teacher at Blackhawk Tech at Janesville and later at Beloit.

Annabelle spent her early years in retirement with her husband and the last 20 years as widow.  She continued her role as a teacher in retirement, volunteering at Rockwell Elementary and she also taught English as a second language to several young Hispanic women.  Annabelle was a fiercely independent individual who was blessed with good health and was able to devote much time and energy to local organizations and causes that were important to her.  She was a life-long gardener who spent as much time outdoors as Wisconsin weather allows.

Annabelle was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Linda Hoessel, her husband Charles (Chuck) Udey and her brother Harold Hoessel.  She is survived by her son Mark (Debra) Udey, daughter Kay (Alan Goldberg) Udey and her grandchildren Aaron Udey, David (Abby) Goldberg and Peter (Taylor Tinkham) Goldberg.

Interested individuals could make contributions in Annabelle’s memory to local organizations or causes that are of particular importance to them.  Annabelle was a strong supporter of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fort Health Care, the Dwight Foster Public Library, the Hoard Historical Museum, the Fort Club and the Fort Senior Center.  She also benefited greatly from, and was appreciative of, end of life care delivered by Rainbow Hospice.

Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson.  The service will be preceded by family visitation at the church beginning at 10 am and followed by a luncheon.  Burial will be private.
