Obituary of Lee Haskell Powers
Lee H. Powers age 90 of Cambridge, passed away December 16, 2018 at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek, surrounded by his wife Galina, his daughter Adelle and his son Kenny.
He was born July 10, 1928 in Newton, MA to Lee and Agnes (Haskell) Powers and raised in the town of Merrimac, MA where he learned everything there is to know about farming, taking particular pride in raising and caring for horses. He was a proud graduate of MIT with a mechanical engineering degree. His son Stephen also attended MIT.
In 1948 he married Barbara (Feeney) Powers and they had five children: Ellen, Peter, Stephen, Kenny and Charlotte Powers. They eventually settled on a farm near Rockford, IL.
In 1978 he married his second wife Galina (Gooseletova) in the Soviet Union, where he worked for one year installing agricultural equipment and had the opportunity to pick up a little Russian and make many Russian friends along the way.
Though he worked for Gilman and Remmele as an engineer for many years, his heart was in farming, socializing with family and friends, and spending time at his beloved Weeona Lake, at which he designed and built two cabins. Lee was also an active member of Christiana Township, attending Willerup Methodist Church and serving as tax collector for the township for many years, even helping design the current Christiana Town Hall.
He is survived by his wife Galina of Cambridge, WI, 4 sons: Peter of Prescott AZ; Stephen of Los Angeles CA; Kenny of Anchorage AK and Lee of Boston MA, as well as a daughter Adelle of Cambridge WI. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Cedar, Temple, Iset, Charlotte, Yana, Knox, Lee, and Katya. He is further survived by sister Charlotte of Friendship, ME.
