Gerald Dahnert

Obituary of Gerald Edwin Dahnert

Jerry Dahnert, 71, of Fort Atkinson, WI, died at home on October 17, 2018 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Jerry is survived by Cathy, his wife of 50 years, 3 children (Art, Ericka and Zach) and 9 grandchildren (Taylor, Corey, Lisa, Mary, Lauren, Sam, Tessa, Quincy, and A.J.). He is also survived by his siblings, Bob (June), Diana (Lynn), Tom, and Cindy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Gladys Dahnert, and his brothers, Jim, Dick, and Mike.

Dad grew up on Lower Hebron Road and graduated from Fort Atkinson High school in 1965. After a rebellious youth, he became a journeyman electrician who worked on projects across the country including the Epcot Center in Florida and the Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant in Arizona. He remained in Arizona for just over 30 years. He and mom returned to Fort Atkinson in 2012.  Besides making the best fudge ever, Dad was an avid reader and a master Scrabble player. He won most every game of Scrabble and it became a personal challenge to try to beat him.

Dad was generous and showed his love by being there when we needed him. He was not your typical role model--he lived out his convictions and raised us to think for ourselves. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. We will miss him very much He will be in our hearts forever.
