I just learned of Mr. Wilson's passing tonight as I read through the Jefferson County Humane Society memorials.
I got to know Mr. Wilson through my job at the Jefferson County Dog Park. It was a bright spot in my workday to see his car parked in the area where he walked his dog Johnny. I was always greeted with a hug and stories of what he had done since the last time we had seen each other. I will miss our visits.

Lighting a candle for one awesome man Gene! When we think of Wisconsin we will always remember the legacy that Gene left all of us! We got to know and appreciate both Gene and Sue while on a cruise.

We've cherished the friendship with Gene and Sue since we met the first time on the Mediterranean cruise. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Whenever we think of Wisconsin we will think of the legacy Gene has left us.

We, the members of the Class of 1965, remember your father so well. He was an inspiration as well as a much loved principal. He would stand in the cafeteria at lunch time, punch our lunch tickets, and talk with us. I remember Mr. Noel saying to us that your dad was 1000% and he was so right! What an honor to be his daughter!

Mr Wilson was a friend of many of us in the Jefferson High School Class of 1965. He became our principal in 1963 after we moved into our brand-new building. He inspired a new school spirit. He was the person who told us that President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas. We were the first class to have our prom in the school mall. This picture of him with Steve Adams was taken at our 50-year class reunion in August 2015.

There was a good turnout at a party in January 2017 celebrating Mr Wilson's 90th birthday.

My sympathy to the family of Mr. Wilson. About a month ago, he sent a letter of congratulations to me, as "one of his kids". I immediately sent a letter back to him, thanking him for his service to me and all of his former students. Indeed, Mr. Wilson ran a tight ship, at a time when fairness meant discipline and discipline was respected. At the same time, he showed compassion for those in need and encouragement for those with unrealized potential. I was fortunate to have experienced his guidance. My life and and the lives of thousands are better because L.Gene Wilson was here.

Chris - My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Your dad was 'one of a kind' and will be deeply missed by all that knew him. I always said that he 'graduated' with the Jefferson Class of '76! I also enjoyed running in to him from time to time and definitely will miss seeing him.
