Obituary of Agnes Marlyn Goodrich

Agnes M. Goodrich, age 97, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin passed away surrounded with the love of her family on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Sienna Crest in Fort Atkinson, WI. Agnes was born at home in rural Cambridge, Wisconsin on November 27, 1920, the daughter of Norwegian immigrants Ole and Klara (Bokrudstad) Roterud (later changed to Rude upon settling in Wisconsin.) She boarded with the Baker's while attending Fort Atkinson High School, graduating in 1938. She worked as a waitress at "The Little Tearoom" at "The Pharmacy" in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin for over 20 years. Agnes was baptized, confirmed and married at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church. Agnes married Robert Ellis Goodrich on June 7, 1941. Agnes was active in the church choir, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Obedience Circle, and the Ladies Aid (Now WELCA). She was also a lifetime member of the American legion Auxiliary, a member of the Fort Atkinson Women's Club, a member of the Lake Ripley Country Club, a member of the Koshkonong Prairie Historical Society, a Cub Scout Leader, and a member of the Young Mother's (Homemaker's). As a couple, they were active in square dancing in the 50's, which gave way to boating and fishing on Lake Ripley, eventually taking up the game of golf at Lake Ripley Country Club where they were members for over 30 years, enjoying couples golf, euchre and bridge games and she was a member of the 9 Hole League. She had a hole in one in Virginia Beach while golfing with her family. Agnes and family enjoyed camping trips to Yellowstone, Maine, and Canada. As a couple, they traveled to Mexico, Norway to meet relatives, and visited England and Greece where their son was stationed in the military. They participated in many golf trips with friends, and spent winters in Ocala, FL. Whenever friends described Aggie, the words "She was such a nice lady" were used. She was a giving, caring person, who always looked out for others' welfare. Surviving are her children: Col Jerry Goodrich, Landrum, SC; and Sarah (Craig) Goodrich-Baird, Sun City West, AZ; grandchildren: Lisa (Patrick) Goodrich Magee and their four children of Campobello, SC, Kristin (Michael) Horbinski of East Troy, WI, and their three children and two great grandchildren; and Tyson Navis of Oceanside, CA. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 2002, and 12 siblings and their spouses, a brother-in-law and his wife, as well as several nieces, a nephew, a great nephew and a great niece. A special thank you to Pastor Brenda for her visits and comfort in Agnes' last week, and special thank you' s to the staff at Sienna Crest and Rainbow Hospice for their loving care over the past several years. A Memorial Service is being planned for Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00AM at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 454 E. Church Road, Cambridge, WI with inurnment of both Robert and Agnes at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, WI, at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 454 E. Church Road, Cambridge, WI 53523; Koshkonong Prairie Historical Society, 211 South St., Cambridge, WI 53523; Macular Degeneration Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD, 20871; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3313 S. Packerland Drive Suite E., De Pere, WI 54115. Visitation will be held from 10:30AM on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the church until the time of the services.
