Obituary of Donald F. Rumpf

Donald F. Rumpf, age 94, of Cambridge, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Home Again in Cambridge, WI. Donald was born in Cambridge, Wisconsin on June 6, 1923, the son of Maxwell J. and Alice (Jacobson) Rumpf. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1941. Don served his Country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a welder in a Manitowoc shipbuilding yard before he became a navy pilot. On February 9, 1945, Don married Grace Jones in Jacksonville, Florida. Grace preceded him in death on December 9, 2007. Following service to his country, Don attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a business degree in 1949. Following his undergraduate degree, Don entered law school earning his law degree in 1952 from the UW-Madison and began his law practice in Cambridge, Wisconsin that same year. Don was a member of the Oakland Cambridge Presbyterian Church in Cambridge, a member of the Cambridge Foundation since 1954 where he served as secretary for 17 years and president for 20 years, a member of the Lake Ripley Country Club where he served as president for 22 years, a member of the Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery Board (Lake Ripley Cemetery) from 1965 until the present, and a former board member of the M& I Bank of Cambridge. Don enjoyed UW athletics attending football games for 60 plus years, loved his Canadian fishing trips with his son and grandsons, always looked forward to travel whether it be to Ireland, Europe and Turkey with his daughter, Mexico with his family or around the world with his brother, Bud. Surviving are: Two children: Michael (Melanie) Rumpf, Cambridge, WI and Lynn (Thomas) Zentner, Merrill, WI; four grandchildren: David (Lesli) Rumpf, Andrew (Amber) Rumpf, Jonathon (Kristi) Zentner, and Rachel Semrow; eight great grandchildren: Jack, Ryan, Lauren, Evelyn, Kaila, Maxwell, Clay, and Charlotte; and two brothers: James (Donna) Rumpf, New Mexico and Richard (Barbara) Rumpf, Florida. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Grace, and a brother, Duane. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church, 313 E. Main Street, Cambridge, WI with Pastor Scott Marrese-Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery, Town of Oakland, WI. Friends may call after 9:00AM on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the church until the time of the services.
