Obituary of Diedre DeeDee Luzwick

Dierdre (Deedee) Luzwick (nee Schultz) died on January 4, 2018. She was born on August 13, 1945, to Geene (Gallagher) and Edward Schultz. Deedee was raised in Forest Park, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, but throughout her youth she spent all her summers in Cambridge, Wisconsin, where her parents had a home on Lake Ripley. Deedee attended Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, and then lived in Chicago for ten years before moving to Lake Ripley in 1975 where she remained for the rest of her life. Deedee was a highly regarded and accomplished fine charcoal graphic artist whose thought provoking drawings reflected a surrealism style. Deedee was a biblical scholar, a visionary philosopher and a social critic who focused her haunting imagery on both the ancient roots of Western civilization and modern society. Deedee's drawings were the subject of two books. The first, The Surrealist's Bible, published by Jonathan David in 1976, was a collection of sixty of her drawings in which she interpreted the Old Testament with a contemporary focus. Deedee's second published book, Endangered Species, was published in 1994 by Harper Collins. The provocative images depicted in Deedee's drawings in Endangered Species delineate the social, scientific and ecological threats that exist to the survival of humanity in modern times. A collection of Deedee's drawings can be found on the internet at www.luzwickart.com. Deedee was also a writer and published author. Her book, The Catcher of the Wise, published in 2006 by King House Publishers, contains Deedee's poetic and whimsical interpretations of the main stories and lead characters in the Old Testament. Deedee's first marriage to Roger Luzwick ended in divorce. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ball. She is survived by her sisters, Peggy Scheid of Plainview, Illinois, and Linda Heck of Marinette, Wisconsin, by her brother, Daniel Schultz of Silver Spring, Maryland and by a horde of nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9 from 10 to 11 am to be followed by a short service at the Nitardy Funeral Home 208 N Park St. Cambridge, WI. 53523. In lieu of flowers, donations in Deedee's memory can be made to the Cambridge Public Library, Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson, WI, or a charity of your choice.
